Griffin was born in Oklahoma. With the sport in his blood, his father, Tommy Griffin, was a basketball center and track standout at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Originally, both Griffin and his older brother, Taylor, were home-schooled by their mother until Blake was in eighth grade. Before focusing on basketball for his professional career, he also played in baseball and football around this time.
After home-schooling, Blake and his brother attended Oklahoma Christian School, where they both played under their father, who worked as a head coach.
