At long last, the quarterfinals is upon us in the World Cup. In the first quarterfinals match, France will battle Uruguay for a spot in the semifinals. Both teams were able to win their respective groups and then managed to hold on to one goal victories in the round of 16. Now, star forwards Kylian Mbappé and Luis Suarez will battle it out as both players will look to deliver a decisive blow against each other on the scoreboard this Friday.
France entered the World Cup as one of the favorites to lift the trophy. So far this tournament, France has done nothing but prove that it is a legit contender. France only allowed one combined goal in three group stage games before allowing three goals in the Argentina match. However, France possesses a powerful line of attacking forwards who can score with ease. France’s solid all-around play should pose some problems for Uruguay who play a more counter-attacking style of play. Expect France to pressure Uruguay’s defenders and midfielders constantly on Friday in order to set up some serious attacking chances.

Uruguay’s defense has been the key to its success but France’s strikers are arguably the best left in the tournament.
As for my prediction, I have to side with France. With Cavani at less than 100%, it might be pretty hard for Uruguay to keep up with France. France is the deeper team and should win this close contest.
