Cristiano Ronaldo is the biggest soccer star in the world and soon Facebook could be looking to cash in on his popularity. According to a report from Variety, Facebook is in talks to produce a reality series focused on Ronaldo for its Facebook Watch platform. Facebook has previously worked with NFL stars Tom Brady and Marshawn Lynch and the Ball family, but scoring a show with Ronaldo would undoubtedly be their biggest hit yet.
Ronaldo would also be in for a huge payday if the show was to be produced.
From the report:
The social giant is in talks to bring the Ronaldo docu-series to Facebook Watch, its video platform for TV-style content, according to multiple sources. Facebook is prepped to invest substantial coin in the project: The Portuguese footballer could get a paycheck of around $10 million for the 13-episode show, sources say.
CAA is packaging the series, to be produced by Matador Content and Religion of Sports, a sports-media firm founded by Gotham Chopra, Michael Strahan, Tom Brady and production company Dirty Robber. Sources differed on how advanced the negotiations are; one said a deal is close to being finalized while another characterized the talks as nascent.
If Ronaldo was to get his own show, it would reportedly be patterned after “Tom vs. Time,” which follows New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady on and off the field. It would give sports fans a unique behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be one of the top athletes in the world.
Ronaldo most recently took the field in Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, his Portugal squad was bounced from the tournament by Uruguay in the Round of 16.
