The Fourth of July is soon upon us, with people throughout the United States hosting barbeques and whatnot. That said, there are always ways to spice things up each year, so if you are tired of the same old hot dogs and hamburgers this year, we’ve got you covered.
Hot Docos

If you want your hot dogs to have a little more crunch than usual, you can always ditch the soggy bun for a hard shell taco! Hence the name, “hot doco.” Technically, it doesn’t have to get more simple than that, but WQAD offers a recipe complete with jalapenos and guacamole.
Cheesy Hot Dog Croissants

It’s an oldie but a goodie, essentially a cousin to “pigs-in-a-blanket.” A bit more traditional, you substitute the bun with a warm, crispy croissant. In fact, you bake it with the hot dog. Normally, you also wrap it around with cheese before you wrap it around in the dough, as seen in this recipe, according to WQAD.
Old Fashioned Lemonade

July 4th is a time when the people of the United States celebrate American history, so an old-fashioned classic is always a good idea. More to the point, barbeques are usually for families and you need something for the kids, or really anyone under the age of 21, to drink. Obviously, lemonade is primarily sugar, water and lemon juice, so it shouldn’t be that hard to whip up, but that’s just the base! Throw in some mint sprigs and berries, naturally red and blue, for the holiday, and you might even appease your holier-than-thou cousins who only drink fruit-infused water. According to Country Living, it can also be a good idea to boil the water and sugar long enough to make into a syrup, which you then mix which lemon juice and water.
Bourbon Barbeque Pork Chops

With a little bit of creativity, you can barbeque pretty much anything. To be honest, with a little bit of creativity, you can make pretty much anything using a hot plate, but for 4th of July, we do barbeque. Country Living offers a recipe for barbequed pork chops complete with a homemade sauce that has a little something for everyone: ketchup for the everyman, cayenne pepper for the adventurous, garlic for the foodie and even whiskey. That’s right, we’re cooking with whiskey!
Bacon Siracha Potato Salad

Potato salad is just as much a staple of the Fourth of July barbeque as the meat. For some, you just eat it because it is traditional, but I’m sure there are plenty of people who like it. But just because something is traditional doesn’t mean that we can’t make a few changes here and there. Peas and Crayons has a recipe that makes a few changes to potato salad. Did I mention it involves bacon? And siracha? Already on top of potatoes? Nobody remembers this dish already comes with potatoes!
