Sports radio personality Larry Cotlar was killed Saturday night when he was swept from his van during a flash flood. He was 65 at the time of his death.
What happened?
According to NBC 13, police were alerted to reports of an occupied van that was found stalled in high water; Cotlar was later identified as having been swept away by the flood waters. According to Des Moines Register, he was identified as a 65-year-old man during early reports of the story, before officials identified Cotlar as having been the deceased.
The flash flooding had been caused by heavy rainfall in the central Iowa area. with National Weather Service also designating the scene a flash flooding emergency.

Cotlar entered the national scene by hosting shows at the “Sports and Entertainment Network” and “American Sports Radio Network” in Las Vegas. He then moved to Chicago to become a host at the ‘One-on-One Sports Network’ (now Sporting News Radio).”
“Cotlar’s expertise extends into play-by-play. He has been the voice of the Drake Bulldogs since the 2005-06 season. He was also the voice of the Iowa Barnstormers in 2011-12 and has been the sideline reporter for Iowa Barnstormers’ television broadcasts since 2013.”
According to Des Moines Register, he was also known by the nickname “Mr. Positive.”
