Just when we thought the NBA had reached peak “Super Team” era, just when we thought next year would be the year we return to normalcy, we get the news that none other than Kevin Durant and LeBron have reportedly had discussions about joining forces … on the Lakers.
Personally, I’ve always felt that the Lakers were the likeliest landing spot for LeBron as it’s the only organization that can be rationalized outside of basketball.
Had LeBron ended his career in, let’s say, Philadelphia, media and fans alike would be quick to call him a ring-chaser. But if LeBron goes to Los Angeles, he has the prestige of the Lakers and the potential business gains to lean on.
But the fact that KD will be joining him ruins the whole thing because, well, KD is just a drag these days.

But I will tell you what I did hear is that behind the scenes, Kevin Durant was like, “Why would I do that? You know what, as far as I’m concerned, LeBron James is a big-time player, what have you. But the way I look at it, I should be perceived as the best in the world. I’m the reigning two-time champion. I’m the reigning two-time NBA Finals MVP. Why would I think about doing something like that?”

LeBron and KD’s images have gone separate ways over the years. LeBron was vilified for going to Miami but was able to widely redeem himself due to his successful return to Cleveland.
KD, on the other hand, become public enemy #1 after he blew a 3-1 playoff lead with the Thunder before jumping ship to Golden State. If he goes to L.A., Durant may spend the rest of his career as the villain. He’ll always be remembered as the guy who just hopped on board.
