Eunice Gayson, the actress who played the first Bond girl, the actresses who play the love interests in the James Bond film franchise, has died at the age of 90. Her passing was officially announced on her Twitter account, noting that she passed away on June 8.

Eunice Gayson’s official Twitter account issued the following statement:
“We are very sad to learn that our dear Eunice passed away on June 8th. An amazing lady who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She will be very much missed.”
The official James Bond Twitter account also issued the following statement offering their condolences over Gayson’s passing:
“Comment from Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli: “We are so sad to learn that Eunice Gayson, our very first ‘Bond girl’ who played Sylvia Trench in DR. NO and FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE has passed away. Our sincere thoughts are with her family.”
According to Sky News, Gayson was born in Croydon on March 17, 1928. Appearing in the first Bond film, 1962’s Dr. No, essentially serving as the first “Bond girl,” appearing in the films, Dr. No and From Russia with Love. According to her official IMDB profile, she was originally considered for the part of Miss Moneypenny, but that part ultimately went to actress Lois Maxwell instead. She was also originally intended to be a recurring character in the franchise but was ultimately dropped from later films.
While physically appearing in the film, her voice was dubbed over in both films by actress Nikki van der Zyl; that said, Gayson’s real voice could be heard in trailers initially released for the first film.
Later in her career, she also appeared in television shows including The Saint and The Avengers.
