Stephanie Courtney was born on February 8, 1970, in Stony Point, Rockland County, New York. She’s the youngest of three children. In 1992 she graduated from Binghamton University with a degree in English. At Binghamton, she played Elizabeth Proctor in her school’s production of The Crucible. When asked about her career aspirations growing up, Courtney said, “I was never tortured over whether I wanted to become an actress. There was never another option in my mind.”
After graduation, she moved to New York City. While working as a secretary at a financial firm, Courtney studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse. She eventually moved to Los Angeles, where she roomed with her sister, actress Jennifer Courtney.
