The LA native was born March 18, 1979 to Fredric and Patsy Levine, who divorced when Levine was seven. Levine has a brother Michael, half-siblings Liza and Sam, and a stepsister, Julia. Levine formed his first band, Kara’s Flowers, in 1994 with several friends from high school. The band received moderate success and attention from record labels, but after their only album The Fourth World flopped financially in 1997 the members parted ways. After a brief stint as a college student Levine, inspired by his exposure to R&B and hip-hop, reunited with former bandmates Mickey Madden, Jesse Carmichael, and Ryan Dusick. With the addition of James Valentine as a fifth member, they formed Maroon 5.

Maroon 5’s first album released in 2002, About Jane, was not an immediate hit. It’s popularity grew over the next few years, however, resulting in the band receiving their first Grammy award in 2005 for Best New Artist and one in 2006 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. 2007’s It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, and 2010’s Hands All Over were also popular, and the 2011 single ‘Moves like Jagger’ became a hit worldwide. Maroon 5 has released 3 new albums since, each of which had incredibly popular singles such as ‘Payphone,’ ‘Animal,’Sugar’, and ‘What Lovers Do.’

Levine was one of the original judges in the 2011 debut singing competition The Voice, a role which he has continued to this day. His team has produced three of the show’s winners, from the 1st, 5th, and 9th respectively. Levine’s presence on the show has increased his personal fame as well as that of Maroon 5’s.
Aside from his success in the music industry Levine has found moderate success in acting, most notably in television show American Horror Story and 2013 film Begin Again. Levine has also created his own fashion line and perfume, and become a spokesman for Proactiv.
