The X-Force In Deadpool 2: A Who's Who

The new Deadpool 2 trailer showed off the shiny new roster of classic mutant team X-Force. As some characters and actors are still being withheld by Fox it’s hard to know exactly who is who, but we gave it our best shot to tell you the latest we have on them.

Cable

Nathan Summers, better known as Cable (Josh Brolin), is a good representative of the chaotic writing that often occurs in superhero comics. The son of Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey (long story) he is taken into the future after being infected by a biomechanical disease that threatened to transform his entire body to metal. Nathan was raised and trained in a post-apocalyptic wasteland to be the savior of mutants and the world alike and travels through time on a never-ending quest to make the future a better place.

Cable is an incredibly powerful psychic but is better known for his outrageously large guns and a metal arm. He was the founder of the X-Force team in the comics, a position which seems to have fallen to Deadpool in the movie. Cable and the mouthy merc have a long history together, from being rivals to teammates to the closest of friends.

Domino

20th Century Fox
Zazie Beetz plays the mutant mercenary Neena Thurman, aka Domino. Her mutant ability is probability manipulation, giving her incredible strokes of luck whenever required. In the comics, she’s easily identifiable by her monochromatic coloring (hence the name) which is reversed with Beetz’s character. Domino has been with X-Force since its inception and is Cable’s staunch ally and sometimes girlfriend.

Jesse Bedlam

20th Century Fox
Terry Crews unidentified character was originally thought to be time-traveler Lucas Bishop or SHIELD agent G. W. Bridge. While no new info has been officially released, sharp-eyed fans can see what appears to be a dossier on X-Force members with a headshot of Crews labeled ‘Bedlam.’
20th Century Fox
Jesse ‘Bedlam’ Aaronson was a lesser known member of the X-Force team who has mostly dropped out of sight post-90’s comics. He can sense, manipulate and emit bioelectric energy in a variety of ways.

Shatterstar

Shatterstar is the product of yet more complicated comic storylines. The short version is that he was genetically engineered in an oppressive alternate dimension to be the ultimate gladiator and he fell in with X-Force after coming to their dimension to get the X-Men’s help. Shatterstar is best known for making Marvel history by having the first on-panel kiss with another man (teammate and boyfriend Rictor, who appeared in 2017’s Logan).

The only evidence of Shatterstars involvement in Deadpool 2 is a blurry blink-and-you-miss-it appearance in the helicopter scene, as well as confirmation by Colossus actor Stefan Kapičić. While the figure’s face is so hard to make out it’s pretty much impossible to recognize the actor, rumors that Iron Fist actor and martial artist Lewis Tan would portray the interdimensional warrior have seemingly been confirmed by the man himself.

Unknown #1

20th Century Fox
Another member of X-Force appears briefly is unidentified but clearly portrayed by actor Bill Skarsgård (It). Many fans are tentatively theorizing that he could be either Chamber or Zeitgeist, based on the face guard attached to his costume.

Unknown #2

20th Century Fox
An unidentified mutant portrayed by Japanese-Australian actress Shiori Kutsuna is featured in X-Force’s lineup. Fans are more or less at a loss as to who she is as she doesn’t quite match up with any X-Men or mutants from the comics. The prevailing theory is that she may be Noriko Ashida or ‘Surge’; the Japanese mutant has brightly dyed hair (albeit blue in the comics) and has the same electrical powers that Kutsuna’s character seems to possess.
According to some sources, however, the character may be entirely original. Named ‘Yoki’ or ‘Yoiki’, the same source claims she’s the girfriend of Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Unknown #3?

After some wildly successful test screenings, Fox seems to be adding not only reshoots but an entirely new character cameo appearance. While the most likely addition would be Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine (or simply Jackman as himself), it looks like we’re going to have to just wait and see!

With so many new characters and so little revealed, it seems like the movie can’t come soon enough! Until then, X-Men and Deadpool fans will keep the rumor mill turning until it’s red-hot with our speculations and theories.
Deadpool 2 premieres May 18. It’s directed by David Leitch (John Wick) and stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character.
