The University of Kansas is located in Lawrence Kansas and is a member of the Association of American Universities. The public university, which is home to more than 28,000 undergraduate students, was founded 1865 by the Kansas State Legislature. The school’s motto is “Videbo visionem hanc magnam quare non comburatur rubus,” which translates to “I shall see this great sight, why the bush does not burn,” a bible verse from Exodus 3:3.
The current school chancellor is Douglas Girod, who leads an academic staff of 2,663.

The spirit squad is led by Spirit Squad coordinator Cat Jarzemkoski, while Lindsay Marriott serves as the Cheer coach. Along with a cheering squad, Kansas has a Rock Chalk Dance Team led by Raquel Thomas.

Bill Self has been leading the Kansas basketball program for 15 seasons and once again led the Jayhawks to success during the 2017-18 season. Kansas finished the year with a 29-7 record and was ranked No. 4 in the final AP Top 25 Poll of the season after winning the Big 12 regular season and Big 12 tournament championships.
Bil Self earned Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year honors, while senior guard Devonte Graham was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and redshirt sophomore guard Malik Newman claimed the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year award.
