Famed Indian actress Sridevi Kapoor, better known by her mononym, Sridevi, has passed away at the age of 54. Her official date of death was February 24, 2018. Considered one of the most popular actresses of Indian cinema, she was regarded as one of the first female “superstars” of the Bollywood film industry.

According to HuffPost, a member of the actress’ family confirmed her passing. It was noted that she was in Dubai for a wedding, where she suffered a cardiac arrest.
Sridevi got her start as an actress as a child star in Tamil. She later made her Bollywood debut in the 1975 film, Julie. Initially going back to Tamil and Telugu films, becoming a notable leading actress, appearing in films like Meendum Kokila (1981), Premabhishekam (1981), Moondram Pirai (1982) and Aakhari Poratam (1988). She later became a lead actress in Bollywood films, such as Nagina (1986), Mr. India (1987), ChaalBaaz (1989), Lamhe (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992), Gumrah (1993), Laadla (1994) and Judaai (1997).

ChaalBaaz, a remake of a popular 70’s film, Seeta Aur Geeta, an adaptation of The Prince and the Pauper, notably saw Sridevi play a dual role: an abused heiress and her long-lost sister, who rescues her from their evil uncle. In Mr. India, she especially gained prominence for a scene where she imitated Charlie Chaplin.

In later years, she found work in television. In 2012, she returned to the film industry in the piece, English Vinglish. What was Sridevi’s official cause of death?
According to Reuters, her official cause of death was drowning in a bathtub following a loss of consciousness. On social media, the Dubai Police made the following statement:
“Following the completion of post-mortem analysis, Dubai Police today stated that the death of Indian actress Sridevi occurred due to drowning in her hotel apartment’s bathtub following loss of consciousness.”
In earlier reports, Sridevi’s official cause of death was believed to be cardiac arrest. Her official cause of death was February 24, 2018. Some news media, such as Geo TV, also listed her cause of death as a heart attack.
Sridevi is believed to be survived by husband Boney Kapoor and daughters, Khushi and Janhavi Kapoor. She was in Dubai when she endured her cardiac arrest attack. She had been in the area for a family wedding. NDTV confirmed that the wedding was for her nephew, identified as Mohit Marwah.
