Born on November 2, 1985, Amendola grew up in The Woodlands in Texas. He played football while attending The Woodlands High School, where he even helped his team win their first Texas state championship game. Eventually, he played college football for Texas Tech, where he became the third all-time in school history in punt returns and yardage, with an average of 11.06 yards per return, behind Wes Welker and Tyrone Thurman.
Amendola started a professional career by signing with the Dallas Cowboys on April 27, 2008. After his contract expired, he signed a contract with the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles on January 6, 2009.
