Jim Rodford, a bassist for bands like the Kinks and the Zombies, has died at the age of 76 after a fall. His official date of death was January 20, 2018.

The Zombies, a group Rodford played with since 1999, confirmed Rodford’s passing in a Facebook message. As Zombies co-founder Rod Argent, who was also Rodford’s cousin, wrote:
“Jim was not only a magnificent bass player, but also from the first inextricably bound to the story of The Zombies. An enormous enabler for us. He was actually the first person ever to be asked to join the band, way back in 1961. Because he was in the top St.Albans band of the time (The Bluetones), he turned us down at first, but from day one helped us chart our course.”

Rodford joined The Kinks in 1978. For their part, The Kinks gave their condolences on social media, as well as sharing other deaths concerning Rodford’s passing:
“It is with deep sadness that we have learned that Jim Rodford passed away – he toured and recorded with the Kinks for many years and will be greatly missed. He was much loved by all of us #JimRodford.”
Other music groups he was a part of include The Swinging Blue Jeans and The Kast Off Kinks. Starting his musical career in the 1960’s, he was active as a musician well until his death in 2018.

What was Jim Rodford’s official cause of death?
At this time, Rodford’s official cause of death has not been confirmed. As the Facebook post explains:
“It is with deep sadness that I learned this morning that my dear cousin and lifelong friend, Jim Rodford, died this morning after a fall on the stairs. More details are not yet known about the exact cause of death.”
