A fatal car crash involving multiple cars at the Bay Bridge toll plaza has shut down several lanes in Oakland, California.
Oakland authorities are responding to the scene, where it had been confirmed that a driver hit multiple cars. A toll taker had been killed in the collision. The truck driver and a passenger were also confirmed to have suffered serious injuries.
At this time, it is expected that the lane will be closed for the time being. Officer Vu Williams of the CHP later clarified that the lanes would be closed for at least 8-10 hours, according to ABC 7 News. The CHP later released a press release over the crash on social media.
Governor Brown released a statement that identified the victim, Si Si Han, who was 46 at the time of his death:
Anne and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Caltrans Toll Collector Si Si Han, who died today while serving the traveling public. On behalf of all Californians, we extend our condolences to her family, co-workers, and friends.
In addition, according to the CHP, the driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and manslaughter.
According to East Bay Times, it is believed that a second death was caused by the crash, but the exact details are unclear. What caused the crash is also currently under investigation.
