Partridge Family star David Cassidy has been placed in an induced coma, with his family being told to prepare for the worst less than a year it was revealed he had been diagnosed with dementia.
The actor was said to be in need of a liver transplant earlier this week
Cassidy had previously been rushed to a hospital in Flordia three days ago. In addition, he is suffering from multiple organ failures, with his family being told to prepare for the worst, with them currently gathered at his bedside.

For many, David Cassidy is best known for playing Keith Partridge in The Partridge Family, a sitcom focusing on a widowed mother and her five children starting a pop-music career. The fictional family’s matriarch, Shirley Partridge, was played by Cassidy’s real-life stepmother, Shirley Jones. The show’s popularity helped to showcase Cassidy’s singing and painted him as a teen idol, eventually helping him launch a career as a musician.

Back in February, the actor revealed he had been fighting with dementia for two years after falling on stage during a concert. Cassidy also appeared on The Dr. Phil Show to discuss his condition.

Cassidy’s condition is likely hereditary, as his mother, Evelyn Ward, had also suffered from dementia, until her death at 89 in 2012. “In the end, the only way I knew she recognized me is with one single tear that would drop from her eye every time I walked into the room. … I feared I would end up that way,” Cassidy said, according to Daily Mail.
According to People, Cassidy is currently diagnosed with liver and kidney failure and is in critical condition. A rep had said that he was in need of a liver transplant earlier this week.
Update: Cassidy passed away on November 21, 2017, at the age of 67, in the Florida hospital. His publicist JoAnn Geffen confirmed his death, with his cause of death being organ failure.
