The bling of the Miami Hurricanes has really reflected a lot of attention on the team and their taste for gaudy jewerly. The Miami turnover chain is 5.5 pounds of bright gold and sapphire-studded swag. It’s a sight for sore eyes, and has really been taking off with fans and players alike.
AJ Machado is the jeweler responsible for 36 inches of gold and sapphire swag. He’s known as “The King of Bling,” and provides attention-grabbingly expensive jewerly for NFL stars. UM defensive coordinator Manny Diaz II came up with the concept of the chain while placing a necklace over a players’ head each time they recovered a fumble or intercepted a pass.
Machado received a text from his brother on Halloween night to see a photo of a young boy who was wearing a makeshift Miami turnover chain made of shoelace and cardboard. The jeweler’s work had become so popular that kids were now dressing up with their own version of the Miami turnover chain for Halloween. He laughed and said, “My brother thought I had to see it.”

Machado said, “I knew it was going to be big because no one has done the chain, but this has been crazy.”
The chain is said to represent the flashy, flamboyant swag of Miami culture.
The creator of the chain spent days putting each sapphire stone into place. The price tag is unknown, but is predictably very large.
“Literally, I was at a loss for words,” said Joel Rodriguez, director of player development for the defense. “I was like, ‘That’s the most enormous, gaudy thing I’ve seen in my entire life.’ But it’s supposed to be larger than life. That’s what it’s for.”
Soon after its release, bootleg t-shirts of the turnover chain started popping up on the internet.
Licensing right to sell the Miami Turnover shirt has been given to Harry Rothwell, the general manager for 25 years at allCanes in Coral Gables, Florida, Former Miami linebacker D.J. Williams.
Rothwell said, “It’s been one of those things that just grew into something everybody wants a piece of, and it fires the fans up almost as much as it fires the players up.”
