Wow…with the rankings just unleashed upon the college football world, pundits and fans alike are already either jubilant or completely aggravated. While these rankings are not the final determination of who ultimately gets a bid to participate in the College Football Playoff, it gives us some intriguing insights into who the Playoff Committee gauges as the top tier college teams. Clearly, it is already evident that the committee favors marquee wins over having a blemishless record (see Miami, Wisconsin). It also appears that college programs are rewarded for having a strong overall schedule rather what they have done recently (see Clemson, Ohio State).
College Football Playoff Rankings 2017: Week 10
Two of the more surprising placements in the rankings are Wisconsin at ninth (undefeated on the season) and Mississippi State at 16th (unranked last week). While the immense rise of the Bulldogs will most likely not affect how the final playoff rankings look down the road, the demotion of Wisconsin from fifth to ninth is a bit surprising. Although the Badgers have one of the weaker schedules when compared to the top 10 teams, any program that is undefeated should not be dismissed because of an aspect they cannot control. Nevertheless, these first of several rankings by the Playoff Committee are insightful and should only become even more controversial as the college football season wears on.
| Ranking | Team |

| 6 | Ohio State |

| 8 | TCU |
| 9 | Wisconsin |
| 10 | Miami |
| 11 | Oklahoma State |
| 12 | Washington |
| 13 | Virginia Tech |
| 14 | Auburn |
| 15 | Iowa State |
| 16 | Mississippi State |
| 17 | USC |
| 18 | UCF |
| 19 | LSU |

| 25 | Washington State |
Say what you will about the disrespect towards some of the undefeated teams, but the committee nailed the top spot with Georgia. Aside from their early season win over an elite Notre Dame program, Georgia has absolutely steamrolled everyone that has stood in their way.
