This Saturday, the SEC brings us one of their biggest rivalry matchups of the season. The 7-0 Georgia Bulldogs will head to Jacksonville, Florida to take on the Florida Gators who have just lost two straight. With two teams going in completely opposite directions we’ll be looking for either a bounce-back game or continued dominance for one of these teams during this Saturday’s presentation of College Football.
The 3-3 Gators will look to get more consistency out of an offense that has only put together three touchdowns in their last 2 games. Their last game, against Texas A&M saw a lot of good out of the defense that racked up a couple of interceptions with three sacks. Unfortunately for the Gators, the speed for the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball can be seen as a serious threat to them. In their last matchup, with Missouri, Georgia rushed for 370 yards and their defense allowed less than 200 yards between the first quarter and second half. With the return of the skilled defensive tackle in Trent Thompson for Georgia, Florida’s ‘underdog’ role in the game is only reinforced.
The loss of Gator linebacker Jordan Sherit has spelled even more trouble in Gainesville and has given Georgia an even better chance at coming away with the ‘W.’ The Gators will need their offense to step up and players like wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland to play at their full potential. Cleveland has racked up 326 receiving yards with 2 touchdowns in just 4 games this season. He has already exceeded his record total for yards from the 2016-2017 season and already matched his touchdowns. He remains a bright spot on a roster that has seen a lot of darkness as of late- in addition to reports of death threats received by Coach Jim McElwain.
There’s no surprise that Georgia is a 14 point favorite over Florida per CBS. I’m also predicting a Georgia win but not without a fight. After all, Florida is at home and I expect the offense to make their biggest effort of the season in this rivalry matchup. I am predicting Georgia to win by one touchdown as I do not think that Florida has what it takes on neither sides of the ball to get the better of their rival.
