After several months of regular season baseball, postseason baseball is upon us, continuing today with game 4 of the NLDS between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals. Both teams won their respective divisions and have the talent to make a deep postseason run in 2017.
The Cubs hold a narrow 2-1 series lead over the Nationals after taking Game 3 behind a dominant effort from Jose Quintana, who made his first career post season start.
On the mound for th Chicago Cubs tonight is former Cy Young winning pitcher Jake Arrieta. With lingering pain in his right hamstring, the Cubs pushed Arrieta to Game 4 at Wrigley Field. The former Cy Young winner’s injury sustained on September 4 came after a 2-month stretch in which he went 7-2 with a 1.79 ERA.
As for the Nationals, they will be pitching Tanner Roark. Roark pitched much better in the second half of the season (3.90 ERA, .223 BA against) than the first (5.27, .278). He lasted 4 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks in his only career postseason start in last fall’s NLDS vs. the Dodgers.
