After several months of regular season baseball, postseason baseball is upon us, continuing today with game 3 of the NLDS between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals. Both teams won their respective divisions and have the talent to make a deep postseason run in 2017.
Thanks to clutch home runs from Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman, the Nationals were able to win Game 2 by a score of 6-3 to pull even in the series.
The Nationals head to Chicago feeling confident as ace Max Scherzer will be on the mound for the first time this series. He’s posted a 2.92 ERA in six career starts vs. the Cubs. The Nats lost both of Scherzer’s NLDS starts last year, although he was strong in the second starting, only giving up 1 run in 6 innings pitched.
Jose Quintana will be the starting pitcher for the Cubs, who came over in a midseason trade from the Chicago White Sox. The six-year veteran, who was acquired for games like this, will make his postseason debut as the series shifts to Chicago. Since joining the Cubs in mid-July, the lefty is 7-3 with a 3.74 ERA.
