“Uh, fellas … I don’t think were in the 90’s anymore.”
Since literally everything in pop culture is rebooted these days, it was only a matter of time before the reboot phenomenon impacted 90’s Nickelodeon cartoons, right?
That’s right people, Rocko’s Modern Life, the cult cartoon classic known for its adult innuendos, will be returning to American television screens in 2018.

How or why a reboot of Rocko is coming out 22-years after the show went off the air is beyond me, but frankly, it isn’t important. With the entire original cast and crew returning, the Rocko special is going to be an hour of the primetime nostalgia we all crave.

The one-hour special will reunite creator Joe Murray with the original voice cast, including Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko), Tom Kenny (Heffer and Really Really Big Man), “Mr. Lawrence” (Filburt), Charlie Adler (Ed and Bev Bighead), and Linda Wallem (Dr. Hutchinson). With the possible exception of Ren & Stimpy,Rocko’s was Nickelodeon’s weirdest show, with a reliance on surreal gags and“adult” jokes that kids wouldn’t understand until years later.
And not only is the entire cast and crew returning, but the plot of the special is objectively excellent:
Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling brings the characters back to Earth after being lost in outer space since 1996. Rocko has trouble accepting this 21st century modern life, while Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media, and the endless diversity of food trucks. Rocko believes that his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world.
In Layman’s terms, the show might literally pick up from where it left off, only 22 years in the future. It will be as if Rocko aged with all the millennials who watched his show when they were kids.
I’m not sure anyone asked for a Rocko’s Modern reboot, but I can guarantee most Millennials will tune in, myself included.
