Adding stars like Gordon Hayward doesn’t come without its casualties and with that the Celtics say goodbye to Avery Bradley. The Celtics had to choose between letting go of Terry Rozier, Jae Crowder, and Marcus Smart so the people will be relieved to hear that they can hold onto their Terry Rozier jerseys.
Marcus Morris is an extremely limited big man with a team friendly contract, he’ll get minutes by virtue of the Celtics having a weak front court. Also how confusing is it going to be for the Celtics locker room with two people named Marcus on the team, Danny Ainge can’t be a good general manager if that concern didn’t run through his mind at least once.
It’s a little troubling for the future of the Celtics when you choose to pay an undersized guard like Isaiah Thomas to a max contract when you could have had a top point guard prospect along with a 2-guard that plays on both sides of the ball. Celtics have more size in the front court with Morris, but all Morris can really do is stretch the floor and hits 3s at a below efficient rate –33% last season. Celtics need rebounding and Marcus Morris is a below average rebounder for his position.
Stan Van Gundy and the Pistons fans are really going to love Avery Bradley, his defensive intensity and steadily improved offense is something every team should garner. Really up in the air now if they want to match Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s contract but Bradley is a better player and there’s no way they’ll be able to keep both.
