Will Alec Baldwin Return to 'SNL' as Donald Trump Next Season?

It’s not a stretch to say that Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump impression helped to save Saturday Night Live from a multi-season slump. Baldwin’s Saturday night appearances in conjunction with the presidential election and its aftermath coincided with a SERIOUS ratings spike. The guy is now a virtual lock to win an Emmy thanks to his performance. As a result, one would think his return to SNL next season would be a guarantee. However, Baldwin has consistently dropped hints over the last few months that he may hang up the floppy wig sooner rather than later.
Thankfully, that’s no longer the case. In a recent interview, Bladwin confirmed his return as Trump next season and handfuls of NBC executives breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Baldwin has maintained that the last thing he wants is to stick around too long. “The maliciousness of this White House has people very worried,” he said back in March. “Which is why I’m not going to do it much longer, by the way. The impersonation. I don’t know how much more people can take it.”
But in a new interview with CNN, Baldwin said we haven’t quite reached the point of faux Trump saturation. “Yeah, we’re going to fit that in,” he said of his potential reprisal next season. “I think people have enjoyed it.” You thought right, Alec.
However, he did suggest that viewers could be seeing slightly less of him when the new season rolls around. CNN writes: “His busy fall schedule will keep the number of Trump impersonations to a minimum, he said, which means S.N.L. fans will be treated to ‘a couple celery’ sticks rather than a ‘whole meal’ of blonde wigs and orange bronzer.”
Hey, we’ll take what we can get.
