Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, Prince Phillip, has been hospitalized for an infection Wednesday. Yet, royal officials report that the 98-year-old prince is in good spirits.

Prince Phillip was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London late Tuesday as a precautionary measure “for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

This all means that prince, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, will have to miss the the official state opening of parliament which is scheduled to take place later Wednesday.

“Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Phillip is set to retire at the end of the summer. But his wife, Elizabeth, will still reign supreme as queen. She will arrive at the opening of parliament later today with her son and heir to the British throne, Prince Charles.

Queen Elizabeth is also planning on attending a horse race later today at Royal Ascot, Berkshire. “Her Majesty is being kept informed” of her husband’s health “and will attend Royal Ascot as planned,” the statement said.
