The life of a rockstar is usually a roller-coaster of ups and downs. For Ozzy Osbourne, some form of addiction has followed him all throughout his famed career. But according to Ozzy, his worst addiction of all involves sex.
Ozzy realized he had a sex addiction after his wife Sharon Osbourne found out about his extramarital affairs with a celebrity hairdresser. Hairstylist Michelle Pugh first colored Ozzy hair back in late 2011, which ended sparking a long-term relationship.
Ozzy and Sharon told their story to Hello! magazine, where the Black Sabbath front-man and his wife uncover key details about how their 33-year-old marriage almost came to end after Ozzy’s funny business.
“She was a hairdresser who was coming round to the house. I honestly don’t know how it started, but then it picked up momentum and I thought, ‘If I stop, she’s going to go to the press.’ By giving in to temptation, you put your head in the lion’s mouth, but then it closes, and no matter which way you go, you’ve done wrong.”
During this time, Sharon claims to not have been suspicious of Ozzy and Pugh’s interactions. Sharon wouldn’t have guessed in a million years what was really happening:
“I knew that she was overly flirty with Ozzy — you know when people over-laugh at things you say? — but to be truthful with you, I thought, ‘He would never go with that, ever. [I thought] ‘She’s just an old rock chick. Never in a million years.'”
Ozzy’s wife was so clueless about the affair that she only found out “when the press called. That was the first I knew of it.” Meanwhile, the heavy metal rocker was absolutely “scared to death” that Sharon found out about the affair.
“I knew that she was overly flirty with Ozzy — you know when people over-laugh at things you say? — but to be truthful with you, I thought, ‘He would never go with that, ever. [I thought] ‘She’s just an old rock chick. Never in a million years.'”
Osbourne says that his debilitating sex addiction is the worst addiction he has.
“My first wife divorced me because of my playing around. It’s by far the worst addiction that I have. When I was drinking or doing drugs, I was affecting myself physically, but with the sex addiction, it affects everybody. It made me realize what a complete idiot I was. I sat down and I thought, ‘What the hell have I done?’ I can’t imagine life without Sharon. She’s my soulmate. I love her. I can honestly say that I’ve never loved any other woman besides Sharon. I’ve got a crazy-assed way of showing it, but she’s the love of my life.”
Ozzy explained how living the life of a rock’n’roll superstar got the best of him.
“I’m fed up of being an addict — and it’s not just sex; it can be drugs, alcohol, collecting stamps, anything. There’s no in between with me and it’s really hard work. And the business that I’m in… it’s like sitting in a cake shop when you’re on a diet. I even do the sex therapy sessions on Skype now when I’m on the road.”
Last August, Ozzy underwent “intense therapy” for his sex addiction. “Over the last six years, I have been dealing with a sex addiction,” Osbourne said in a statement. “I am mortified at what my behavior has done to my family. I thank God that my incredible wife Sharon is at my side to support me.”
Of course, Ozzy completely contradicted this statement in a January 2017 interview with the Times of London. Ozzy laughed at those sex addiction acquisitions. He’s a bloody rockstar, isn’t he?
“I’m in a f*cking rock band, aren’t I? There have always been groupies. I just got caught, didn’t I? It was a bump in the road. I bet your marriage has bumps in the road too an’ all. In any marriage, you grow apart if you don’t spend enough time together, and that was part of the problem. I don’t think I’m a fucking sex addict.”
However, Ozzy is still undergoing therapy for his sex addiction. Ozzy says that he’s “doing [his] utmost to make amends to Sharon and to all of the family.” On May 14, 2017, Ozzy and Sharon renewed their 35-year wedding vows. Hopefully, Ozzy can take this monkey of an addiction off his back and enjoy the result of his years with the love of his life.
