Longtime German Chancellor Helmut Kohl passed away earlier today at the age of 87. He served as chancellor of Germany for 16 years (1982-1998). Kohl was the leader who helped reunify his nation after the Cold War.
Kohl has served the longest term for any democratically-elected chancellor. He was born on April 3, 1930, in Ludwigshafen, Germany. On Friday, June 16th, 2017, the former chancellor died in his birth-town on Ludwigshafen.
