Samuel Kwarteng, a 20-year-old VCU student and Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brother, was shot and killed in the Carver neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia, on the night of Thursday, April 13.
Kwarteng, who graduated from Mount Vernon High School and was pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in electrical engineering, was expected to graduate in May.
According to a letter from VCU President Michael Rao, Kwarteng, a 20-year-old VCU student from Alexandria, was shot during an altercation off campus in the 1200 block of West Moore Street around 12:30 A.M.
“I am sure you join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to Samuel’s family and friends in this time of great loss. The VCU Counseling Center has been alerted and its services are available to anyone who needs assistance in dealing with this tragic event,” said Michael Rao.
According to WRIC, the suspect, Emmanuel E. Jordan, 20, was immediately arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Police said that Jordan was not affiliated with VCU.
Furthermore, the Pi Kappa Phi chapter at VCU released a statement about Kwarteng:
“Although this loss has hurt us all, we are extremely proud to call Samuel Kwarteng our Brother. What he did for this organization and the positive impact he had on so many people’s lives will never be forgotten.
As a brother, as a student, and as a man, Sam excelled at every part of life. We send our deepest condolences to Sam’s family, and will do anything in our power to help.
