Bill Skarsgård, 26, will star as the titular killer clown Pennywise in this year’s It, but before the film hits theaters, here are the must-see facts you need to know about the Swedish actor.
Facts
Bill Istvan Günther Skarsgård was born on August 9, 1990 in Vällingby, Sweden. He is the son of actor Stellan Skarsgård (the math professor in Good Will Hunting and the science guy running around his underpants in the Thor movies). Skarsgård has seven siblings, including four actors you may have seen in various projects like The Legend of Tarzan and True Blood: Alexander, Gustaf, Sam and Valter. Bill made his acting debut in 2000.
Skarsgård was featured on the cover of Hero in 2014 – a bi-annual men’s fashion and culture magazine. In the issue, he is interviewed by his father.
Info
Though Skarsgård has been acting professionally for 17 years, he’s still somewhat of an unknown to American audiences. His most notable roles came in Simple Simon, Allegiant and Hemlock Grove.
In 2011, Skarsgård was nominated for a Guldbagge Award for his leading performance in Simple Simon, a Swedish comedy film about an 18-year-old with autism. He played Matthew in the sci-fi young adult thriller The Divergent Series: Allegiant, which was his first major American role. In the Netflix horror series Hemlock Grove, he played Roman Godfrey.
