The Port Aransas Police Department have been super busy arresting drunk college kids on spring break this week.
The Texas coast city has long been a hot spot spring break destination and the results from the PAPD prove it. Authorities say they arrested 235 people for spring break-related debauchery. Pat yourselves on the back, Port Aransas, you did it!
“No sexual assaults, shootings — of people, we did respond to ‘shots fired’ calls -stabbings or fatalities were reported,” PAPD Chief Scott Burroughs said.
Unsurprisingly, the majority of the offenses were alcohol related. A grand total of 78 arrests were made for public intoxication, 58 for driving while intoxicated, and 51 minor in possession or consumption charges. A whopping 21 more people were arrested for drug paraphernalia, three on felony drug charges, and another three on misdemeanor drug charges. Six people were arrested on misdemeanor assault charges, according to the PAPD booking records.
Whew. What a rap sheet!
Some of the spring break chaos was caught on video as a beach-goer heroically filmed the crowd rushing towards police officers as they attempted to break up a fight. The crowd of several hundred converged on the authorities as they tried to put an end to the disturbance. At that point, officers pepper sprayed the crowd.
