There’s one 11-seed the Creighton Bluejays (25-9) did not want to see in the round of 64, and that’s the Rhode Island Rams (24-9). The Rams finished the season on a tear and expect nothing less than to upset Creighton. On paper, this looks like a matchup that could definitely go either way.
Creighton, unlike URI, did not finish the regular season on a high note, losing eight of their last 15 games. The struggles have been a direct result of the injury to star point guard, Maurice Watson Jr. URI enters the tournament winners of 12 of their last 14 games.
Despite the shaky end of the season for the Bluejays, they still went on a surprising run to the Big East Tournament championship game, narrowly losing to the now one-seeded Villanova Wildcats. On the height and rebound end, Creighton should be able to edge out URI, which could be a major factor in the game.
URI was able to win their conference tournament, capturing the Atlantic 10 crown. Both of these squads have had roller-coaster years, and this could absolutely be a nailbiter.
