#9 Vanderbilt was down virtually the entire game against #8 Northwestern, but they took the lead late in the second half after a furious comeback. The game was back-and-forth in the last couple of minutes, and it looked like Vandy was going to steal a win.
Riley LaChance drove to the lane and made a tough layup to put the Commodores up 66-65 with 17.8 seconds left. Pretty much all Vandy needed was a defensive stop and a couple of made free throws to ensure a victory.
But Matthew Fisher-Davis had a devastating brain fart, as he intentionally fouled Bryant McIntosh while they were in the bonus. Watch how it all went down in the video below.

Goddamn, that was foolish. My heart goes out to Fisher-Davis because you know there is no one on the whole planet who feels worse about his mistake than he does. It’s a shame he was the player to commit the foul too, as he was having a monster game. Fisher-Davis finished with 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor, but he’ll always be remembered for that stupid foul.
After the foul, McIntosh made both of his free throws, and LaChance was unable to hit a deep three-pointer. Northwestern would add another free throw, and Vandy would throw up a prayer at the buzzer that was way off, giving Northwestern a 68-66 victory.
The Wildcats are advancing to the second round in their first ever NCAA Tournament, and they are understandably super pumped about it.
