The marquee matchup of Pool C will take place this evening, as the USA is set to take on the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. Both teams won their opening games, with the USA winning a nail-biter over Colombia and the Dominican Republic crushing Canada.
The Baltimore Orioles’ Adam Jones was the hero for the USA on Friday night, coming through with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning. With two men on and two outs, Jones lined a single into left-center field for the win.

Jose Bautista was the Dominican Republic’s MVP in their 9-2 victory over Canada on Thursday night. The Toronto Blue Jay went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a monster home run.

As for tonight’s game, Marcus Stroman will take the ball for the USA and Edinson Volquez for the Dominican Republic. Stroman was a mixed bag for the Blue Jays last year, as the 25-year-old righty went 9-10 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.29 WHIP while striking out 166 batters over 204 innings.
The 33-year-old Volquez struggled mightily in his second year with the Kansas City Royals, going 10-11 with a 5.37 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. The veteran right-hander stuck out 139 batters over 189.1 innings.
