UF Student Wins Student Body Election, Promptly Get Arrested In Key West

Student body president by day, unapologetic frat star by night.
William Smith Meyers, the University of Florida’s brand spanking new student body president was arrested in Key West, Florida, after he drunkenly knocked over two Harley-Davidson motorcycles while on spring break. I’ve never been to Key West, but I imagine that’s a place that you do NOT want to scuff up some Harleys. I have a feeling people from the south take their motorcycles seriously.
Meyers, 22, was seen by a witness around 2:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 7, mounting several parked motorcycles on the 400 block of William Street. According to the arrest report, Meyers then attempted to turn the bikes on. When the bikes wouldn’t start, Meyers knocked them to the ground in response.
When Key West Police Department officers arrived at the seen, Meyers was so drunk that he “did not even recall coming down to Key West for spring break vacation,” according to the police report. Frat.
Meyers was arrested for criminal mischief and was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center. He was released on a $328 bond.
Meyers, a food and resource economics major and member of the Alpha Tau Omega was elected to be the next student body president on February 22.
Ironically, his campaign slogan was “Character that counts.”
