Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs) is from Vallejo, California, and he received the opportunity to challenge for Wilder’s belt after Andrzej Wawrzyk was busted for using steroids. The replacement fighter is hungry to shock the world and make up for lost time. Washington didn’t even make his pro debut until he was 30-years-old, as he served in the U.S. Navy, played football in college at USC, and was on several NFL practice squads before deciding to box for a living.
The 34-year-old’s only blemish on his record came from a draw against Amir Mansour in October of 2015. Washington’s on a two-fight winning streak since then, beating Eddie Chambers via unanimous decision and knocking out Ray Austin.
