Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has not set foot inside a wrestling ring since WrestleMania 32 in 2016, but that could change tonight. The People’s Champ is rumored to be making a surprise return to the WWE tonight on WWE Raw in Los Angeles. As everyone knows, The Rock is Beyonce for boys, so you all have every right to be unusually excited.
When The Rock first stepped away from wrestling in 2004, he promised fans that he would return. After seven years, he made good on that promise and has continued to make occasional appearances since 2011 (even if some of them are non-wrestling cameos). We can’t blame the guy for stepping away to make massive movie blockbusters and create his own HBO show, Ballers. Johnson is, after all, Hollywood’s top earner. But we’re excited by the prospect of his return to the WWE, where he first made a name for himself.
The timing of his potential return likely isn’t a coincidence as Johnson’s production company Seven Bucks Production is teaming up with WWE Studios for a movie exploring the famous Knight Family, which includes WWE star Paige. The movie, titled Fighting with My Family, will feature Vince Vaughn, Nick Frost, Lena Headey and The Rock himself. Filming is underway with Stephen Merchant directing. In fact, the production is currently shooting at The Staples Center in Los Angeles…which just so happens to be where WWE Raw will be held tonight. You can put two and two together.
Get pumped.
Johnson can also be seen in his upcoming Baywatch reboot, which will hit theaters on May 26.
