The Champions League Round of 16 kicks off on Tuesday with the first knockout stage matchup as Paris Saint-Germain faces off against Barcelona, playing a rematch from two years ago.
During the UEFA Champions League campaign from two years ago, Barcelona and PSG played four times, with Barcelona coming out on top. Barca finished ahead of PSG in their group and then defeated them in the quarterfinals with Barca winning 3-1 at PSG in the first leg and 2-0 at home in the second.
Today will feature a battle between two of the best strikers in the world. PSG striker Edinson Cavani, who is Europe’s top scorer, has 25 goals for PSG this season. Cavani is seven goals ahead of second place Luis Suarez, his Uruguayan teammate who has scored in six straight games.
Barcelona will be playing without Javier Mascherano, Arda Turan, and Aleix Vidal, leaving defense a little thin. As for PSG, they are playing without defender Thiago Silva and midfielder Thiago Motta.
