One of the better games this weekend is a rematch between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs. If you would have told me earlier this season that they were going to meet in the playoffs, I would have replied that this would essentially be a bye week for Pittsburgh. To be blunt, the Steelers beat the hell out of Kansas City earlier this year 43-14 in Pittsburgh, but the Chiefs are the home team this time around after winning the AFC West and getting a first round bye.
The Steelers had a fairly easy Wild Card weekend, beating the Miami Dolphins 30-12 in a game that was never in doubt. Their offense continued to look as good as they have all year, although quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was seen leaving the stadium in a walking boot, although I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. The Steelers finished the regular season by winning their last seven games, and are playing as good as anyone right now. Although I like their chances this weekend, Arrowhead Stadium is one of the tougher places to play in the NFL, and the Chiefs have been playing great in the second half of the season. This game won’t be easy for Pittsburgh.
While both their offense and defense aren’t ranked highly according to statistics, the Chiefs have been playing as well as anyone else in the league as of late. The difference maker for Kansas City has been rookie wide receiver/special teamer/playmaker Tyreek Hill, who has given the Chiefs a spark plug that they were missing at the beginning of the season. Hill is definitely capable of giving the Steelers trouble on Sunday, but they’ll also need quarterback Alex Smith to make a few plays of his own if they want any chance at moving on to the AFC Championship Game. I don’t know if they’ll win on Sunday or not, but I do know that the Kansas City fans will be quite loud come game time.
