Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay has been named the Los Angeles Rams’ new head coach, the team confirmed Thursday afternoon. McVay got his start as an NFL coach in 2008 as the Buccaneers’ assistant wide receivers coach before joining the Redskins as an assistant tight ends coach in 2010. He was promoted to the position of Washington’s offensive coordinator in 2014.
McVay first interviewed for the position of head coach last week, where he reportedly wowed Rams executives. He then apparently impressed San Francisco 49ers officials while interviewing for the same position on Monday. McVay was offered the job after his second interview with the Rams on Wednesday, and accepted on Thursday.
McVay, 30, is the youngest head coach in NFL history.
