The Clemson Tigers are college football national champions for the first time since 1981, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 34-31 in a CFP Championship rematch.
For the second straight year Alabama faced Clemson in the College Football National Championship Game, and somehow the sequel was maybe even better than last year’s classic that saw Alabama triumph 45-40.
After Alabama marched down the field to take a 31-28 lead with just over 2 minutes remaining, Clemson was to claw back for the final lead change of the night when Deshaun Watson completed a 2-yard touchdown pass to slot receiver Hunter Renfrow with a single second left on the clock.
