After Suffering Brutal Leg Injury, Earl Thomas Sets Football World Ablaze By Tweeting That He’s Mulling Retirement

The Seattle Seahawks have been extraordinary tonight, and they’re currently nearing a blowout win over Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.  But it’s not all good news for Seahawks fans, as they lost Earl Thomas- the pre-eminent free safety in the NFL- to a brutal leg injury in the second quarter.

Here’s the play.

Great job reading the eyes of the QB!! Amazing closing speed by Earl Thomas!!!

Thomas had Seahawks fans fearing the worst when the five-time Pro Bowler sent out the following tweet shortly after exiting the field:

This game has been so good to me no regrets.. A lot is running through my mind including retirement thanks for all the prayers.

It was revealed soon after that the injury he suffered was a tibia injury. If Thomas gets the necessary surgery and goes through the rehab process there is a good chance he’d be ready for next season. That is, unless the 27-year-old actually decides to hang up his cleats.

Tibia fracture for @Earl_Thomas
Bad news: big shin bone, usually surgery, season done.
Good news: excellent chance to return, 100% in 6+mos
