OKAY TIME TO PANIC: Bacon May Be Messing Up Your Sperm

Wow. Devastating new study here from Fertility and Sterility. Thought the election was the worst news of your day? WRONG. Turns out the world’s most delicious food may be f*cking with your next of kin. Less than ideal to say the least.

According to Uproxx, a new study in Fertility and Sterility looked at men participating in in-vitro fertilization and found that the men who ate processed meats like bacon the most had a 28% lower success rate in achieving fertilization. Similarly, meat consumption in general had zero impact (this is about processed meats), except for men who primarily ate poultry; they did 13 percent better in the insemination sweepstakes.

The researchers involved were concerned specifically with couples undergoing infertility treatment. They studied 141 men whose female partners underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2007 to 2014. (Some of those couples employed a technique called intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI; more on that later.) Using dietary questionnaires, they determined the scope of each man’s typical meat intake.

It was found that men who avoided processed proteins such as sausage, bacon, and canned meat had a 28% higher success rate than those who enjoyed their daily rashers.

I’ll take those odds. Bacon is just too damn good, future kid be damned. Sorry, son.
