Today marks the 25th anniversary of Nirvana’s 1991 breakthrough album Nevermind, and the period-defining album’s legend persists in the aftermath of Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994.
In one of the most famous covers in music history, Nevermind featured a photograph of a naked baby and a dollar bill in a swimming pool. While it’s somehow weird to learn that the Nirvana baby actually grew up, he is in fact now a 25-year-old man.
The cover baby named Spencer Elden is is now an artist from Los Angeles, and to celebrate the anniversary he recreated the famous scene.

Now I get that it’s probably embarrassing to have your dick from before your first birthday become perhaps the most famous image of a penis in modern history, but if you say you’re going to recreate the image then don’t half-ass it by wearing a bathing suit. Everybody’s already seen your penis anyway, so you might as finally prove to the world that it has in fact grown in the 25 years since.
To his credit, it was the photographer who told Spencer to put those trunks on this time. From the NY Post:
“I said to the photographer, ‘Let’s do it naked.’ But he thought that would be weird, so I wore my swim shorts,” said Elden, an artist from L.A.
While wearing a bathing suit is understandable, there’s no excuse for the lack of the dollar bill. While it’s true the bill was added to the cover digitally afterward, it just feels off without the dollar. I guess the fact that he is now attempting to make a living as an artist means that he’s not that interested in grabbing the dollar on the hook.
