Think of all of the different types of alcohol you’ve consumed in your life, and think about which have given you the worst hangover. Me? Gin. F*ck gin. Anybody who reps gin as their drink cannot be trusted. As for the rest of you, I’m sure either whiskey or tequila came to mind. Probably, especially tequila. Well, shockingly, apparently tequila is actually the best alcohol to drink if you want to avoid a hangover. I know, WTF, right? Tequila is responsible for some of the worst hangovers of my life, so I’m definitely skeptical.
According to New York Magazine, blanco tequila, made from 100% pure agave, doesn’t give you a hangover the next day.
Bar guru Jason Eisner, director at Hollywood’s trendy vegan bar-restaurant Gracias Madre, explained that the drink keeps you feeling fresh in the morning.
He told The Cut: “We have a lot of trainers and fitness gurus who come in and drink every day. As long as you stay hydrated and don’t drink, like, a whole bottle, you’re fine. Not hungover.”
The blanco factor is key. Eisner adds:
“José Cuervo — what most Americans think of as tequila — is 42 percent corn syrup, which gives you a horrible hangover. We have a lot of trainers and fitness gurus who come in and drink every day — and the way they’re able to do that is to stick to pure agave spirits. As long as you stay hydrated and don’t drink, like, a whole bottle, you’re fine. Not hungover.”
That’s a bold claim by Eisner. Looks like I’ll have to test this theory out this weekend. I’ll let y’all know how it goes.
