There has been a lot of speculation as to which four US Olympic swimmers will ultimately take the block for the 4x200m freestyle relay final Tuesday night in Rio. With Phelps only having 75 minutes to rest after his individual 200m fly final and Lochte needing to swim at his 2008 level, the possibility of a Phelps-less, Lochte-less 200m free relay final was looking highly possible.
But fear ye not, we have on great authority that Phelps and Lochte are officially swimming for gold in tonight’s highly anticipated relay race. We will even go as far as saying, we expect that Phelps will go at least 1:44, potentially setting the team up for breaking the 6:58 world record. Go Team USA.
