British Open 2016 Live Stream: How To Watch The Open Championship Online

The Open Championship, also known as the British Open, is the oldest of the four major championships in professional golf. Held in the United Kingdom, the Open Championship is the only major outside the United States. The Open is currently the third major of the year, between the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship, and is played in mid-July. This year’s tournament begins on Thursday, July 14. The defending champion is Zach Johnson, who won the 144th Open at the Old Course at St. Andrews. Johnson defeated Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen in a 4-hole playoff. This year’s championship will be held at the Royal Troon Golf Club. This will be the ninth that the Open Championship has been played at the Royal Troon Golf Club, and the first since 2004.

This will be the first Open Championship with live domestic television coverage on Sky Sports. It had previously been broadcaster on the BBC from 1955 to 2015. Similar change has happened in the United States, as it will be the first Open Championship to be televised by NBC, after 55 years of being televised by ESPN and ABC. Golf Channel will broadcast the first two rounds, making it the first time that Golf Channel will cover of a men’s major championship. The Open Championshio has been an officia PGA Tour event since 1995, which means that the prize money won in The Open by PGA Tour members is included on the official money list. The 2015 Open had a total prize money fund of $6 million and a first prize of $1.5 million.
The Open Championship field if made up of 156 competitors. Most of the field is made up of leading players who are given exemptions. Further places are given to players who are successful in The Open Qualifying Series and in Final Qualifying. Any remaining positions, and positions made available because qualified players are not competing, are given to the highest ranked players in the Official World Golf Ranking.
