NBA Draft 2016: San Antonio Spurs Draft Picks, Holes & Needs

There is no disputing that the San Antonio Spurs have been one of the best teams in the whole NBA over the last two decades. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker have been the anchors of a solid team for a long time. They are all getting older and the team will be looking to improving on their 67-15 while leaning more on Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge. The team also has the No. 29 pick in the June 23 NBA Draft as they try to get even better for next season.
Duncan is an unrestricted free agent and who knows how much longer he will play while Ginobili has a player option for next season. That’s two very big pieces of the puzzle that have to be in place for the Spurs to win one more title for Duncan. Clearly, the team is building around Leonard and Aldridge who are much younger and could be the next wave of star power for San Antonio. Leonard averaged 21.2 points a game while Aldridge averaged 18 points and 8.5 rebounds a game last season.
The No. 29 pick isn’t usually one that comes with a lot of star power but there has been recent talk that Kentucky guard Tyler Ulis could fall all the way down to this pick due to his bad hip. If that happens, San Antonio will get a steal and could just continue on with their streak of winning 50+ games every single season. Ulis is exactly the kind of player that the Spurs love having and it could be another case of a great player falling into San Antonio’s lap.
