The 2016 Copa America is down to it’s final four teams: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and The United States Of America. Hell yeah. The Copa America semi finals kick off Tuesday, June 21, at 9 PM EST, with the USA and Argentina facing off. The USA’s tall task of defeating Argentina (currently the #1 ranked team in the world), is made even more difficult due to the fact that they have three suspended players for their semi-final matchup in Houston, all of whom have been major contributors. The suspended players are Jermaine Jones, Bobby Wood and Alejandro Bedoya. While the United States have looked thoroughly impressive throughout the tournament, defeating a fully-loaded Argentina squad without some of their key starters may be a task too tall.
The Copa América Centenario is the 45th edition of Copa América since its inception in 1916. It is held as part of an agreement between CONMEBOL (the South American football confederation) and CONCACAF (the football confederation for North and Central America and the Caribbean). The winner of this tournament will not receive an invitation to the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, as Chile has already qualified by winning the 2015 Copa América.
The Copa America is an international men’s soccer tournament, which is being held in the United States this year. The tournament is a celebration of the centenary of CONMEBOL and the Copa América, and is the first Copa América hosted outside of South America.
