The Red Hot Chili Peppers released their first album in nearly five years today, and the group that formed when Ronald Reagan was in his first term have shown they can still make fantastic music. You should stream The Getaway, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers’ 11th studio album, as soon as you can.
The Getaway began production in 2014 but had to pause production for eight months after bassist Flea broke his arm snowboarding. The album is the group’s first effort not produced by legendary producer Rick Rubin since 1989; grammy-award winning producer Danger Mouse, who has recently worked with Adele, The Black Keys, U2 and A$AP Rocky among others, is at the helm. Early reviews of the album have been largely positive.
To promote the album, RHCP appeared in James Corden’s popular Carpool Karaoke. The video, posted on Youtube on June 13, already has nearly 12 million views. Also, Sirius XM’s channel Lithium has been turned into Red Hot Chili Peppers Radio until June 22nd, playing music spanning the group’s lengthy career and hosted by massive RHCP fan Chris Rock. The Chili Peppers will be one of the headlining acts at this year’s Lollapalooza, playing on July 30th in Chicago.
