Hockey, more commonly known as field hockey here in the United States, is a huge sport in the Olympics. Even though it’s mostly touted as a female sport stateside, internationally the game is a lot bigger.
Typically, Germany dominates the male side and the Netherlands has been winning the female side, but Argentina and even New Zealand have been nipping at their heels since the last Summer Olympics.
As far as the schedule goes, Hockey features a total of twelve nations, split into two pools of six teams each. The top four teams from each pool advance to a quarter-finals, then a semi-finals, and then a Final. It’s very similar to the way the World Cup functions, but with a smaller number of teams. All of the games will be played at the Olympic Hockey Center in Deodoro, Brazil.
